Together with The Great Wave off Kanagawa, this work represents Katsushika Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series. The title "Gaifu" means the south wind. It is said that this scene, also known as "Red Fuji," can only be seen in the early morning from summer to autumn.
